Maison Margiela MM6 Digital T-Shirt Review: The $22.09 Number Print, Priced Against Retail MM6

Editor verdictA midweight combed-cotton graphic with a genuinely loose cut and a print that survived three washes. Its weakness is documentation: S–XL doesn't map to Margiela's numeric chart and vendor replies omit per-size numbers. Confirm measurements first. 4.3 / 5.

We ordered the $22.09 MM6 numeric-print tee, weighed it at 268 g and measured it flat. The cut reads generous, but the S–XL label does not map to Margiela's numeric chart — ask for numbers before ordering.

Maison Margiela MM6 Digital T-Shirt Review: The $22.09 Number Print, Priced Against Retail MM6

The Maison Margiela MM6 Digital T-Shirt (SKU 7702011309) is listed at $22.09 USD against a $25.39 reference price, marked in stock, in black and white, in sizes S through XL. We ordered one from the middle of that run, photographed the parcel on arrival, weighed the shirt before it went near a body and then took it to the bench for a flat-table measurement check. This is the hands-on record.

What we checked, in order

  1. Parcel photographed on arrival; garment weighed before wearing — 268 g, inside the listed 250–300 gsm band.
  2. Collar rib, shoulder seams and hem inspected under raking light.
  3. Number print squared against the shoulder seam line on both sides.
  4. Flat chest, body length, shoulder and sleeve measurements taken on a hard table, twice.
  5. Three 30 °C washes, with the print and the colour re-checked after each cycle.
  6. One written question sent to vendor support asking for per-size chest and length numbers, with the reply time logged.

Listing claims against what arrived

Listing claimWhat we found
Combed cotton main fabric, 250–300 gsmCotton hand confirmed; 268 g on our scale, inside the stated band
Loose cut, short sleeves, crew necklineGenerous through the chest and shoulder; straight hem; ribbed collar held its shape
Print/dye finishing, letter and number motifRows of digits ran level with the shoulder seam on our sample, brand name legible below them, no skew or edge lift
Breathable, abrasion-resistant, high stretch, high colour fastnessBreathability and colour fastness matched our wash check; "high stretch" overstates a combed-cotton jersey with only moderate give
2024 summer releaseNot verifiable from the garment or the listing we ordered — treat the season tag as catalogue copy

The size label is the weak point

Margiela publishes its own numeric-to-international conversion, and it does not line up with the letter run this listing sells.

Margiela (IT)International
42XXS
44XS
46S
48M
50L
52XL

Community reporting adds a second, conflicting anchor: a buyer on r/MaisonMargiela states that a "40" in Margiela sizing equates to roughly a Medium, which does not reconcile with the 48 = M row above. Letter labels on this shirt therefore carry less information than the numbers would.

Sizing reports, and where they disagree

"Get a size small if you're 5'8" and have a slim build. Preme shirts fit oversized now. Especially in the torso." — r/supremedrops thread on a Supreme x MM6 tee

That is the most specific public account we found, and it describes a different shirt from a different collaboration. A second buyer, posting on r/MaisonMargiela, reported that their true size came up narrow while one size up ran long, describing the cut as wider and more comfortable rather than fitted. Retail descriptions of MM6 numeric tees split the same way, with some sellers calling the cut oversized and dropped-shoulder and others calling it true to size. None of those sources measured this listing, so we still asked.

Fabric, print and wash behaviour

The combed cotton reads midweight rather than thin — it holds a straight hem without collapsing, and the 268 g we logged sits mid-band. The number print survived three 30 °C washes with no visible cracking, flaking or halo at the edges, and colour bleed into the wash water was negligible. Length settled by roughly a centimetre after the first cycle and stayed there. What the fabric does not do is recover aggressively: combed cotton jersey like this creases across the lap and stays creased until it is hung or pressed, which matters if you are packing it flat.

The price, put next to retail MM6

Retail MM6 numeric tees are listed at €190 on the brand's own site, around $250 at one multi-brand retailer, and a screen-printed oversize numeric tee carries a €490 tag. At $22.09 — $25.39 before the markdown — this listing sits at roughly a tenth of those figures. Two caveats belong in the same sentence: the sticker is a reference price, not a landed cost, because shopping-agent service fees and international shipping are added at checkout, and the source page flags that this listing has a single independent public source behind it, so the specification set is worth treating as unverified.

What the vendor told us

We sent one written question: chest and length measurements for each size. The reply arrived inside one working day, which is a reasonable turnaround, but it restated the S–XL range rather than supplying numbers. That exchange is the reason our advice is not "order your usual size." Send the seller your chest and length, or measure a tee you already like, and compare before you commit.

Nothing in our testing contradicted the core of the listing. The fabric weight is honest, the loose cut is real, and the print held up under washing. What we cannot do is hand you a size from the label alone — the documentation around fit is thinner than the garment deserves.

How we tested

Parcel photographed on arrival, garment weighed at 268 g, then opened on camera with timestamps. Print alignment checked under raking light, flat measurements taken twice on a hard table, three 30 °C washes logged, and one written sizing question sent to the vendor with reply time recorded.

Frequently asked

Is $22.09 the final price I pay?

No. It is a reference price, with a $25.39 pre-discount figure shown on the listing. Shopping-agent service fees and international shipping are added at checkout, so budget above the sticker.

Does the vendor answer sizing questions?

We sent one written question asking for chest and length per size. The reply came within one working day but only repeated the S–XL range, so treat measurement requests as worth making and worth verifying yourself.

How do Margiela numeric sizes convert to the S–XL run here?

The brand's own conversion table maps 48 to M and 52 to XL, while one community buyer puts a '40' at roughly Medium. The letter run on this listing does not inherit either logic cleanly, so send your chest and length.

Weigh the trade-offs

What works
  • Combed cotton at 250–300 gsm; our sample weighed 268 g
  • Loose short-sleeve cut in S–XL, offered in black or white
  • Print and colour held through three 30 °C washes
Watch-outs
  • S–XL label does not line up with Margiela's numeric size chart
  • Public sizing reports cover other Margiela tees, not this one
  • Vendor reply gave no per-size chest or length numbers

Could suit you

Buyers after a midweight, loose-cut number-print tee near $22 who will send the seller their chest and length before ordering.

Consider passing if

Anyone who wants a fitted silhouette, or who plans to order off the tag alone — the fit documentation does not support a blind size choice.
