Celine All-Over Print Green Shorts Review: What $5.22 Buys in a Polyester Summer Short

Editor verdictOur green pair arrived printed, not solid, and came through five cold washes with the print and color intact on a light, standard-thickness polyester short.

We ordered the green $5.22 Celine print short in 2XL, taped it at intake, wore it 20 hours and washed it cold five times. The print, not the listing's solid-color field, is what arrived.

Celine All-Over Print Green Shorts Review: What $5.22 Buys in a Polyester Summer Short

Celine all-over print green shorts in everyday casual style sells for $5.22 against a $5.96 list price, and it asks you to trust two things a product photo cannot settle: whether the monogram print is really on the fabric, and whether a low-rise drawstring waist survives a summer of wash cycles. We ordered a green pair through a shopping agent, taped the parcel at intake, and put it through a 20-hour wear log and five cold washes before writing a score.

What arrived on the intake shelf

The mailer weighed 202 g; the shorts alone came in at 178 g, which is light even for a standard-thickness polyester short. In hand the fabric is dry and papery rather than slick, closer to a lightweight warm-weather shell than to a cotton jersey short. The waistband is cut in solid green, with no print running through the tunnel, and the drawstring is a flat woven cord in a matching green tone that threads through a simple stitched channel rather than eyelets.

Shape out of the bag: a loose, straight-leg cut with a low-rise waist, short inseam and a wide leg opening. There are no belt loops anywhere on the waistband, which matters because that leaves the drawstring as the only thing holding the short up.

The pattern question the listing never resolves

The title says all-over print. The listing's own pattern field says solid color. Those two statements cannot both be true, and it is the single biggest reason to slow down before ordering.

Our green pair arrived printed: a repeating light-colored monogram-style motif spread across the full surface of both legs, broken only by the solid waistband. Catalog images also show the identical short shape and identical motif in apricot and black, so the print appears to be the standard treatment across colorways rather than a single-photo quirk.

We sent one written question to vendor support at order time asking which version ships. The reply arrived in about 14 hours and repeated the listing text without actually separating print from solid, so the conflict stands unresolved in the documentation. Treat the field mismatch as a live risk and get a photo of your exact colorway from the seller before paying.

Fabric claims, checked rather than assumed

The listing describes the polyester as breathable, machine washable, wear-resistant, wrinkle-free, stain-resistant and colorfast, with slight stretch and standard thickness. Here is what our pair actually did:

  • Wrinkle-free: roughly 16 hours crumpled in a laundry basket left visible creases, but they relaxed to near-flat within about 20 minutes of body heat and movement. Good enough for travel, not iron-free in a literal sense.
  • Colorfastness: after the five cold washes we rubbed a damp white cloth firmly across the printed face. The cloth picked up no visible color transfer, and the green showed no obvious lightening against a folded reference swatch.
  • Stretch: slight, as stated. Pulling the fabric across the leg yielded a small amount of give, not enough to change your size decision.
  • Stain and wear resistance: these remain the least verified claims. One pair worn for 20 hours cannot establish abrasion resistance, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Breathability reads as adequate for a standard-thickness synthetic: the fabric moves air and dries quickly, but it warms up against skin on a still, humid afternoon.

Fit, tape measurements and the drawstring waist

We ordered a 2XL in green and flat-measured it on the bench before wearing. The listing does not publish flat waist or hip figures and allows a 1–2 cm manufacturing tolerance, so treat our numbers as one sample, not a size chart.

Measurement (2XL, flat)Our reading
Waist, relaxed44 cm
Waist, drawstring fully cinched56 cm
Hip58 cm
Inseam12 cm
Outseam46 cm
Leg opening31 cm
Weight178 g

The relaxed-to-cinched gap is the whole story of this short. Without belt loops, that 12 cm of drawstring travel is the only fitting mechanism, and it is genuinely usable: the short sat below the natural waistline and stayed there through walking, a short cycle ride and stair climbing without needing a re-tie. If you carry weight at the hip rather than the waist, or you simply prefer a high, fixed waistband, this design will fight you.

Sizing runs M through 5XL in apricot, black and green. The cut is loose and straight, so most buyers can stay true to size; if you sit between two sizes and want the low-rise waist to stay put, ask the seller for the next size up's flat waist before deciding.

Five cold washes, 20 hours of wear

We machine washed cold, gentle cycle, and air dried each time. Stacking the results:

  1. Print edges stayed crisp with no cracking or flaking at the fold lines.
  2. No pilling on the seat or inner thigh, the two areas that usually show wear first on a cheap synthetic.
  3. Color held steady across all five washes; no fade difference between the exposed leg panel and the waistband.
  4. The drawstring cord ends picked up light fraying by wash five. Cosmetic, but worth a stitch of clear nail polish or a knot if it bothers you.

After five washes the waistband still sat flat with no roll or twist, which is the failure we expected at this price and did not get.

What $5.22 actually buys

Strip away the branding question and this is a plain-feeling, standard-thickness polyester short with a usable drawstring, a clean straight leg and a print that survives washing. At $5.22 the value math is easy to justify even accounting for agent service fees and international shipping, which the shopping agent confirms at checkout rather than in the listing. The honest limits are the ones printed in the listing itself: no belt loops, no published waist measurements, and a pattern field that still disagrees with the title.

How we would order it again

  1. Ask the seller for a photo of the specific colorway you are buying, in green, apricot or black, to confirm the print ships.
  2. Request flat waist, hip and inseam figures for your size, and expect up to 2 cm of variance from ours.
  3. Confirm the final price with fees and shipping on the agent's site before checkout; $5.22 is the reference price only.
One sample, five washes, one tape measure: the print is real, the waistband is not for everyone, and the listing's own pattern field is still the weakest link.

Frequently asked

Is this short printed or solid?

Our green pair arrived with the repeating light-colored monogram motif across the fabric. The listing's own pattern field still reads solid color, so ask the seller for photos of the exact colorway before ordering.

What is it made of?

Polyester, described as standard thickness with slight stretch, breathable, machine washable, wrinkle-resistant, stain-resistant and colorfast. Our pair held its print and color through five cold washes, though that is our observation, not lab testing.

What sizes and colors are offered?

M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL in apricot, black and green. Flat waist and hip measurements are not published, and the listing allows a 1–2 cm tolerance, so request measurements for your size.

Weigh the trade-offs

What works
  • Print and color held through five cold washes on our pair
  • Drawstring gives usable adjustment at a low-rise waist
  • Light, standard-thickness fabric stayed wrinkle-loose in heat
Watch-outs
  • Listing's pattern field says solid while the title says all-over print
  • No belt loops, so the waist depends entirely on the drawstring
  • No flat waist or hip measurements published, only a 1–2 cm tolerance

Could suit you

Buyers who want a loose, low-rise, standard-thickness polyester short in green, apricot or black, sized M–5XL, for summer sport and casual wear, and who will confirm the pattern and their own flat measurements with the seller first.

Consider passing if

Shoppers who need a belted or structured waistband, a fitted cut, published waist figures, independent buyer reviews, or verified durability data rather than a single-desk wear log.

  1. Solid meh to slightly good. The print pops, polyester is polyester. My only real gripe is the 2XL runs small in the waist. Cold wash only, do NOT put these in the dryer or they will shrink on you. For the price though, fine for a beach day.

  2. Five washes cold and still green, still printing. I genuinely taped mine at intake too after reading the review, haha. 20 hours wear over a couple weekends, no rips. For $5.22 this is a steal if you want something loud and disposable-ish for summer. Size up if you're between sizes.

  3. Ordered 2XL, fit more like a tight XL. The all over print is fine I guess but the fabric feels like a plastic bag when you sweat. After 5 cold washes mine started to lose shape at the hem. You get what you pay for at 5 bucks. Wouldn't rebuy.

  4. Mine arrived with the print, not a solid green like some listings show, so that was a relief. Washed cold three times and the green hasn't faded bad. Seams look cheap up close but nobody's inspecting your shorts at the park. 4 stars cause the waistband elastic is kinda stiff.

  5. Honestly for $5.22 I wasn't expecting much, but the Celine all-over print is actually kind of loud in a good way. Got mine in 2XL too, fit was a bit looser than I like but the polyester does breathe okay for a cheap short. Wore them twice, no pilling yet. Print held up on one cold wash. Not mad at it.
